William A. Geppert Sr.
Born into a family shaped by a strong German work ethic, William A. Geppert Sr. was a forward-thinking, enterprising entrepreneur who never waited for opportunity. He created it. With a keen eye for potential in everything he encountered, he built a legacy through grit, vision, and action.
William began his career in excavation, later transitioning into demolition. His ability to see value where others saw waste led him to establish a reclaimed materials yard, which eventually evolved into what is now Geppert Lumber. Along the way, he also owned and operated a hardware store in Wyndmoor, further demonstrating his commitment to serving the needs of his community and building a diversified business foundation.
His story is one of transformation, resilience, and entrepreneurial spirit, a legacy that continues to shape the values of Geppert Lumber today.
James B. Geppert
James (Jim) B. Geppert, one of William’s four sons, began his career as a heavy machine operator for William A. Geppert Demolition, which later evolved into Geppert Brothers. Like his father, Jim was a dedicated and forward-thinking man. When William Sr. suddenly passed away in 1953, Jim stepped up to manage the family lumber yard.
Under Jim’s leadership, the business shifted from selling reclaimed building materials to supplying new construction materials. His vision and commitment laid the foundation for the company’s growth and longevity.
Jim’s legacy was proudly carried on by four of his children, James L., Paul, Claudia, and Elizabeth, who embraced the family business and helped shape its continued success. Though Claudia passed away in 2016, her impact and dedication remain deeply woven into the company’s foundation. Today, James L., Paul, and Elizabeth own and operate the business, continuing the tradition of excellence their father began. Their sister Claire, has been an integral part of the company’s success, contributing her time, talent, and unwavering commitment to uphold the values Jim instilled.
Claudia Geppert
Claudia’s journey from the classroom to the building materials industry was marked by insight, vision, and leadership. Before joining Geppert Lumber full-time, Claudia spent years as an elementary school teacher, where she was known for her ability to connect with students of all personality types. She had a gift for uncovering each child’s strengths and using that understanding to help them grow and turn their challenges into opportunities.
During summer breaks, Claudia worked at the lumber yard, gaining hands-on experience and developing a deep appreciation for the building materials trade. In 1996, she made a bold transition from teaching to leading the showroom at Geppert Lumber. Her vision was clear: to transform the space into a curated destination for builders, remodelers, and homeowners to explore possibilities and find inspiration.
Following the passing of James B. Geppert in 2011, Claudia became president of Geppert Lumber. She led the company with grace and determination until her own passing in 2016. Her legacy lives on in the culture she shaped, the relationships she built, and the showroom she transformed into a place of imagination and trust.
